Singapore visa from Malaysia: filing guide

Short answer

Living in Malaysia? Your travel passport decides whether you need a visa. If you do, compare an eligible Singapore contact with the Kuala Lumpur High Commission's appointed-agent route before paying.

Does living in Malaysia mean you need a Singapore visa?

No. Use the passport or travel document you will present at the Singapore checkpoint. An ordinary Malaysian passport normally needs no entry visa for a short social or business visit; a resident of Malaysia using a visa-required passport may need one. The Malaysian passport guide covers the first case. This guide covers where a visa-required resident can arrange filing from Malaysia.

Check ICA's live visa-required list for your exact document. Residence status, the airport you depart from and a Malaysian address do not change that rule. Work and study require different pass routes.

Who can submit an application from Malaysia?

If your document needs an entry visa, first read ICA's document page for that passport. An eligible Singapore local contact or strategic partner can submit online through ICA. If you use the Kuala Lumpur route, the Singapore High Commission says its appointed visa agents receive and submit applications; it does not accept walk-in applications at the High Commission.

Travellers reviewing a Singapore visa preparation checklist together

Ask the appointed agent whether it can take your case and which documents it requires before paying for preparation. Do not assume that a Malaysian residence card is an introduction letter or that any travel company can file under the High Commission's route. The official Kuala Lumpur visa page has the current appointed-agent list and procedure.

What are the Kuala Lumpur fees?

The High Commission's published schedule currently shows RM100 as the visa processing fee, equivalent to S$30, plus RM80 charged by an appointed agent for each application. It says both fees are non-refundable after submission and that a receipt is issued. Verify the live Mission page and the agent's current total before paying; an online application through an eligible Singapore contact is a different filing route.

Our Form 14A preparation, where available, is a separate service. It does not replace the government fee or the appointed agent's charge, and buying preparation does not reserve a Mission appointment or improve ICA's decision.

Two neighbours, different passport decisions

Consider two people living in Johor Bahru. One travels on an ordinary Malaysian passport for a weekend visit: there is normally no Form 14A entry-visa application. The other travels on a Pakistani ordinary passport: ICA lists Pakistan as visa-required, so that traveller checks the Pakistan document list and chooses a permitted filing route. Their shared address in Johor does not give them the same visa rule.

The same distinction applies to an Indian, Bangladeshi, Nigerian or other visa-required passport holder living in Malaysia. Check that passport's ICA page before copying another applicant's document checklist. An appointed agent may have its own submission instructions; confirm them with the agent listed by the High Commission.

Before submission and after approval

Match the name and document number on Form 14A, the passport and any required supporting records. Confirm who will file and who will receive the result. If the application is approved, ask that filer for the e-Visa and compare it with the passport before travel. An approval permits travel to a Singapore checkpoint; ICA still decides admission and the length of the Visit Pass.

The free SG Arrival Card is a separate arrival declaration for most travellers entering Singapore. Submit it through ICA's official service within the current three-day window, including arrival day, when required. Neither a visa application nor a paid preparation package submits it automatically.
