Singapore visa local contact or authorised agent: which route fits?
Short answer
Need a Singapore local contact for Form 14A? Compare a genuine Singpass or Corppass contact with a Mission-appointed authorised agent, and avoid fake sponsor routes.

A local contact and a Mission-appointed agent do not always replace one another. The contact may support the visit and sign a required Form V39A, while an agent submits the file. Direct submission through the contact is possible only when the person and route meet ICA conditions; a Singapore address or Singpass account alone is not enough.
VisatoSingapore is an independent document-preparation and application-support service, not ICA, MFA or a Mission-appointed authorised visa agent. For cases we support, our usual service estimate remains 3–4 working days after submission to ICA. It is a planning estimate, not a promise of approval or checkpoint entry.
Singapore visa local contact or agent?
The useful distinction is who can submit the case through a permitted route. ICA says applicants without a local contact who has Singpass or Corppass may use a Mission-appointed authorised visa agent or apply at the nearest Singapore Overseas Mission.
A local contact is not a hotel booking, and an independent preparation service is not automatically an authorised visa agent. The free SG Arrival Card is also separate from the visa application. Choose the route that can truthfully support Form 14A, your documents and the purpose of the trip without inventing a sponsor.
What a Singapore local contact actually does
Check ICA requirements for the passport and visit purpose. An individual local contact must be a Singapore citizen or permanent resident aged at least 21; direct online submission requires Singpass. For a business visit, also check the requirement to act for a Singapore-registered business. Corporate filing access is a separate role, not proof that any individual qualifies. The contact must know the application details and agree to the responsibility required.

A local contact is not the same thing as a hotel booking. Accommodation evidence can support where you will stay, but it does not automatically create a permitted filing route or make the hotel responsible for your Form 14A.
What a Mission-appointed authorised visa agent does
An authorised visa agent appointed by a Singapore Overseas Mission can submit applications through that Mission's route, subject to its current rules. Appointment is a specific status, so verify the agent against the relevant Mission's current list instead of relying on a logo or the word "official" on a sales page.
An independent service such as VisatoSingapore can prepare Form 14A, check passport and photo details, review document consistency and explain the available route where the case fits our service. That support does not make us ICA, MFA or a Mission-appointed authorised visa agent, and it cannot guarantee approval. ICA decides the visa outcome and officers decide entry at the checkpoint.
Which route should you choose?
Consider direct filing through your contact only after checking personal eligibility, the permitted channel and willingness to submit. If you use a Mission-appointed agent instead, follow that Mission’s document list: a local-contact letter may still be needed even though the agent is the filer.
If no eligible contact is available, check the relevant Mission’s current procedure and ask what official alternatives it accepts. Independent preparation support can help organise Form 14A and supporting documents, but cannot create a missing filing route or provide a made-up signature.
Decision checklist
Use a local contact when the contact is real, reachable, route-valid and willing to stand behind the details. Use a Mission-appointed agent when that route applies and you can verify the appointment. Use independent preparation support when you want help with Form 14A, document review and route guidance before the permitted filer submits the case.
Before choosing a service, ask who will submit the file, what the fee covers and which current ICA or Mission route applies. Avoid any provider that calls itself a government website, promises approval, sells the free SG Arrival Card as a visa or asks you to borrow a Singapore address.
Example: a relative signs the LOI and an agent submits
You are using a Mission-appointed agent route whose document list requires Form V39A. Your relative is a 30-year-old Singapore citizen and agrees to be the genuine local contact for a family visit. The relative confirms the facts and signs the required LOI under that route’s conditions; the agent checks and submits the file. Both can take part in one application, with different responsibilities.
Separate three roles: the accommodation host, the contact or Form V39A signatory, and the actual filer. A hotel booking supports the first, not automatically the other two. If there is no signatory, do not invent a family relationship with the agent or buy a signature; ask about the official alternatives available for the specific route.
Checks before you choose a route
Confirm the live visa requirement on ica.gov.sg and, if you plan to use an authorised agent, check the relevant Singapore Overseas Mission's current list. Ask the provider to separate official fees, service fees and the free SG Arrival Card, and to explain who actually submits the application.
Finally, make sure the passport, travel dates, accommodation, funds and local-contact details match across Form 14A and the supporting documents. A permitted route and a consistent application are far more useful than urgent-approval claims.
