Do Australians need a visa for Singapore? SG Arrival Card guide

VisatoSingapore Editorial TeamUpdated Sep 1, 20264 min read

Short answer

An ordinary Australian passport does not normally need a Singapore entry visa or Form 14A for a short visit. Submit the free SG Arrival Card when required, then carry evidence that matches the visit; a different travel document needs its own visa check.

For Australian ordinary passport holders, the practical answer is usually no: you do not prepare a Singapore entry visa or Form 14A for an ordinary short visit. ICA's visa-required list says travellers need a valid Singapore entry visa only if their travel document is issued by one of the listed countries or places; Australia is not on that list as reviewed on 2 July 2026.

This answer covers the passport and the entry-visa question only. It does not turn study, employment, family residence or another long-term purpose into a short visit. Those purposes have their own pass route even when the traveller is Australian.

Run the passport check before the trip check

Use the exact travel document that will be presented at the checkpoint. An ordinary Australian passport follows the visa-free answer above. A refugee travel document, alien's passport, document of identity, emergency or temporary document can have different rules, even when its holder lives in Australia.

Treat the visa-required list as a live check rather than a permanent promise. Recheck ICA and the Singapore High Commission in Canberra before departure, particularly after a passport replacement or when the booking shows a different document from the one used for the eligibility check.

Submit the free SG Arrival Card when ICA requires it

Visa-free does not mean no arrival declaration. ICA says SG Arrival Card is not a visa, but travellers entering Singapore generally submit it before arrival unless an exemption applies. A passenger who stays in transit and does not seek immigration clearance is one of the important exceptions.

Use ICA's free SG Arrival Card e-Service or MyICA Mobile app and follow the live submission window. Do not pay a website that presents SGAC as an Australian tourist visa, and do not buy Form 14A preparation for an ordinary Australian passport when no entry-visa application is required.

Residence in Australia does not change another passport

The visa answer follows the travel document, not the home address. For example, a Pakistani passport holder who is an Australian resident still checks ICA's Pakistan visa route. Australian permanent residence is not a substitute for a Singapore entry visa when the passport itself is visa-required.

That traveller may need Form 14A through an eligible local contact, strategic partner, Singapore Overseas Mission or authorised visa-agent route. The correct channel depends on the passport and the procedure serving the traveller's place of residence, not the nationality label on the flight booking website.

Three common Australian travel scenarios

A holidaymaker on an ordinary Australian passport normally skips Form 14A, submits SGAC through ICA when required and carries a coherent short-visit plan. An ordinary Australian passport holder connecting airside without immigration clearance normally does not submit SGAC for that transit. A resident of Australia travelling on a visa-required passport checks that passport's Form 14A route before travel.

The same rule prevents a purpose error. An Australian travelling to take up employment or study should follow the relevant pass instructions, not rely on the fact that an ordinary short visit is visa-free. When the passport, purpose or need to clear immigration changes, repeat the route check.

What checkpoint officers can still ask for

Visa-free travel is not guaranteed entry. ICA decides whether the traveller may enter and how long the Visit Pass or e-Pass allows the person to stay. The absence of a pre-travel visa application does not remove that assessment.

Keep the passport, return or onward plan, accommodation, purpose and means for the trip coherent. If an itinerary changes after SGAC submission, follow ICA's current instructions rather than presenting an arrival declaration and travel plan that no longer agree.

Do not pay us for a visa you do not need

VisatoSingapore prepares Form 14A cases for visa-required nationalities. If you travel on a regular Australian ordinary passport for a short visit, there is usually no Singapore entry-visa application for us to file; use the free SG Arrival Card route and follow entry requirements.

If you are in Australia but travelling on a visa-required passport, we can help prepare the Form 14A file where our permitted-route support applies. We do not issue visas, sell SGAC or promise entry; ICA decides visa outcomes and checkpoint admission.
