Singapore VFTF: 96-hour visa-free transit eligibility and rules
Short answer
VFTF is not a visa, not pre-approved and not guaranteed. Check the India, selected PRC and CIS/Georgia/Turkmenistan/Ukraine condition sets before relying on Singapore's 96-hour transit facility.

- ICA — Visa-Free Transit Facility
- ICA — Transiting through Singapore
- ICA — Entry visa requirements
A "Singapore 96-hour visa" usually means ICA's Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF). VFTF is not a normal tourist visa, not a visa on arrival, not pre-approved and not a promise that every transit passenger can enter Singapore for four days.
The practical question is narrower: are you an eligible national or document holder, are you genuinely transiting through Singapore to another country, and do you meet every condition ICA lists at the time you travel? If any part is uncertain, verify on ica.gov.sg before booking a route that requires you to clear immigration.
What VFTF actually covers
VFTF Singapore, Singapore VFTF and Singapore visa free transit facility all point to the same ICA concept: a conditional 96-hour Visa-Free Transit Facility for specific traveller groups, not a separate online visa application. There is no agent-issued VFTF approval letter that can replace the checkpoint assessment.
For "VFTF Singapore apply online" or "visa free transit facility Singapore apply" searches, the safer answer is to check the route and documents before booking. If you are not covered by the live ICA VFTF conditions, use the normal Singapore entry-visa route before travel instead of treating VFTF as a fallback at the airport.
India and third-country transit
For Indian passport holders, VFTF only becomes relevant when the trip is a genuine transit to or from a third country via Singapore and the traveller clears Singapore immigration. A simple India-Singapore-India visit, a normal Singapore holiday, or a Changi connection that stays airside is a different question.
ICA's India route also requires a valid onward air, ferry or cruise ticket departing Singapore within 96 hours and a qualifying visa or long-term pass from one of ICA's specified countries, with the validity period checked against the live ICA wording. Search modifiers such as "VFTF Singapore for Indians with US visa", "Singapore transit visa for Indian with UK visa" or "transit visa Singapore for Indian passport" still need the full route, ticket, document and checkpoint-entry check.
VFTF Singapore India route matrix
For a "vftf singapore" search from India, split the answer into four routes before booking: airside Changi transit with no immigration clearance, VFTF for a genuine third-country transit, normal Form 14A entry visa when Singapore is the destination, and the free SG Arrival Card only if the traveller actually enters Singapore.
That matrix prevents the common mistake of treating VFTF as a cheaper tourist visa. If the Indian traveller will clear immigration but the route, onward ticket or qualifying third-country visa/pass does not match ICA's current VFTF conditions, use the ordinary Singapore entry-visa route instead of hoping the 96-hour label will fix it at the checkpoint.
Is VFTF a real visa?
No. The official term is Visa-Free Transit Facility. The phrase "96-hour visa" is traveller shorthand because eligible people may be allowed to enter Singapore for up to 96 hours while in transit. That does not create a separate visa product that VisatoSingapore or any agent can issue in advance.
If your nationality normally requires a Singapore entry visa and your case does not fit VFTF, you should prepare the right entry visa before travel. Do not rely on the nickname if the official conditions do not match your passport, document, route and onward ticket.
Who may be eligible for VFTF?
ICA lists VFTF for nationals of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Georgia, India, Turkmenistan and Ukraine, plus selected PRC document holders. The exact groups and document wording are subject to change, so treat this page as an explainer and check the current ICA page before travel.
Eligibility is not only about nationality. ICA also sets route, ticket and third-country visa or pass conditions for different groups. A passport that appears on the list still has to fit the full fact pattern at the checkpoint.
Australia and Singapore search-market caveat
A Google market is not the same as a passport. If a VFTF search comes from Australia, first identify the traveller's actual travel document: an ordinary Australian passport is not on ICA's visa-required list as reviewed on 2 July 2026, so ordinary short visits usually do not need Form 14A and VFTF is usually the wrong frame. If the traveller is an Indian national, selected PRC document holder, or another nationality using Australia only as the route or visa/pass country, then check the correct VFTF condition set.
If a VFTF search comes from Singapore, it is often a local information, extension-of-stay or SG Arrival Card question. ICA says extension of stay under VFTF is strictly not allowed, SG Arrival Card is free and not a visa, and people transiting without immigration clearance do not submit SGAC. Route those searches to eligibility, SGAC, transit or Visit Pass extension guidance rather than a paid Form 14A flow unless the passport and itinerary actually require an entry visa.
What are the India and selected PRC-document conditions?
For Indian nationals and selected PRC document holders, ICA describes a transit to or from a third country via Singapore. Travellers may enter Singapore by any mode of transport, but they must depart only by air or sea within the allowed 96-hour window, with a valid onward air, ferry or cruise ticket. They also need a valid visa or long-term pass from specified countries such as Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom or the United States. ICA also explains how single-journey visas are treated on the return leg after use.
Those details are easy to misread. The onward ticket, third-country status, direction of travel and document type all matter. If you have separate tickets, a low-cost-carrier connection, or a plan to leave Changi for a city stop, check the airline and ICA guidance before assuming VFTF covers you.
What about CIS, Georgia, Turkmenistan and Ukraine nationals?
ICA describes a different condition set for nationals of the CIS, Georgia, Turkmenistan and Ukraine. In broad terms, travellers must be in transit to or from a third country, may enter Singapore by any transport mode, and must depart by air within the 96-hour window. The official ICA wording controls, and the list or conditions can change.
The key difference is that the rule is not identical for every eligible group. Do not copy an Indian traveller's checklist onto a Ukrainian, Georgian or CIS itinerary; read the condition set that applies to the traveller's own passport.
VFTF, SG Arrival Card and Form 14A are different
Airside transit means you do not clear Singapore arrival immigration. ICA's transit page says travellers who need to enter Singapore to collect tickets or baggage and check in again are not considered transit travellers, so a self-transfer or low-cost-carrier connection can turn into an entry question.
VFTF is the narrow transit facility for eligible travellers who clear immigration during a qualifying route. SG Arrival Card is the separate free arrival declaration for travellers entering Singapore unless an exemption applies. Form 14A is the normal entry-visa route when a visa-required traveller does not fit VFTF.
What does VFTF not cover?
VFTF does not replace normal entry requirements for travellers who are not eligible, do not hold the required onward ticket or third-country visa/pass, or are not genuinely transiting via Singapore. ICA also states that extension of stay under VFTF is strictly not allowed.
It also does not remove the need to satisfy checkpoint officers. The airline may check documents before boarding, but ICA makes the final decision on whether you can enter Singapore and for how long. Rules and document requirements can change, so verify the current position on ica.gov.sg rather than relying on an old forum answer.
Single Journey Visa return-leg trap
ICA gives specific wording for travellers using a Single Journey Visa on the return leg after that visa has been used. Do not assume a used single-entry visa automatically supports VFTF just because the traveller once held it.
The route must still match ICA's return-leg condition: travel directly from the visa-issuing country through Singapore back to the home country, without returning home since the Single Journey Visa was last used. If that sequence is broken, plan for the normal entry-visa check instead.
How should you plan a Changi transit?
Start with the route. Will you stay airside, or will you need to clear immigration to collect baggage, check in again, change to a separate carrier, sleep landside or visit the city? If you will clear immigration, treat it as an entry question, not just a transit question.
Then compare your passport and documents with ICA's current VFTF page. If the case fits, carry the onward ticket and supporting visa or pass evidence in a form the airline and ICA can inspect. If it does not fit, prepare the correct Singapore entry visa before travel; VisatoSingapore can help with Form 14A preparation for eligible visa-required travellers, but we cannot grant VFTF or override ICA at the checkpoint.
